Home Station
Wild Life

Wild Life abounds in the Northwoods of Michigan.  When we first established the Home Station we had lots of critters around.  However, soon after the Headquarters was built a house appeared to the North and then the South.  In addition houses were built to the back of the Home Station.  Wild Life for the most part do not like Suburbs.

The first Winter at the Home Station we one day counted 40 some Deer in the back yard.  Yes perhaps as the deer came and went they were really the same.  Non the less they were a pretty site.

Do believe that it was the Spring of 2003 that the Bear arrived.  It seems that for some reason the natural food was in short supply and the Bear came to the Suburbs.  That spring we had 10 identifiable Bear in the backyard.  There was Karen and her four, another Mama Bear and her two, and the two Boars.  One Boar was average size and the other stood 8 inches, at the shoulder higher than the top of the picnic table.  They would come in almost every evening and chow down on sunflower seeds.  Since that Spring we have not seen any Bear.

Just North of Houlton Lake there is a swamp where the Cranes return every Spring.  Pa got some nice free hand telephoto shoots.

From time to time Pa will try to post pictures of the Wild Life at and Near the Home Station.
