Fall 2008

Home Station

Fall 2008 has been the best with color since we have been at the Home Station.  Man,  was the color just outstanding.  Oh course, Pa with two new cameras just plain had a ball.  No, Pa will not post every picture he took.  This, is a change from past seasonal presentation where ya got all - to include those that should have been taken out.  But, none the less the site again this Fall will be mostly pictures.  Do hope that you enjoy.  The links below the narrative will take ya to the pictures.

One big event of the season was Thanksgiving when all the gang showed up.  Pa was told to get candy - which he did.  All the other elements of the great feast came thru the door from down state.  A good time was had by all, lots of nice conversation.  The younger folks had a nice snowball game outside.  Zach for the most part was the official photo taker.

The early Fall Color soon turned into late Fall Snow.  Lots and lots of early snow and it was not the fall on the ground and melt the next day.  NO NO it was the kind of snow that would fall on the ground, hang in the trees, and it looks like it wants to hang around till late Spring.  The only problem with taking snow pictures is that they tend to be black and white.  Oh well, so be it.  Of the albums in the Snow Page is a bunch of shots of Hanging  Snow.  As of this witting, 9 Dec 2008,  flakes of the 1st Real Snow are hidden some place below the 12 or so inches on the ground.

For some reason the big wild life did not come to the back yard of the Home Station this season.  Hence, no close up pictures.  Pa did make a trip to Gaylord to the Elk Park.  He has a nice camera that takes movies.  Would ya know the day he was there a couple of Bull Elks were having a disagreement over something - most likely Cow Elk -- tis the season ya know.  Pa only had the better still camera along, thus he ONLY got still shots. Went back a couple of times with the movie camera, but the Bull Elks had solved their problems.  Pa did get some shots of the Deer Pole in Grayling.

Cameras were the new thing last Summer.  They made the pictures provided for Fall 2008.  However, for Fall 2008 computers were the name of the game.  Pa, got Grandpa Itis and got the Burnham Grandyouns computers for use with school work.  Getting to their Pa's and Ma's machine at the same time presented occupation of the same space at the same time problem.  Hence a great solution - let them have their own computer.  Now ya know when Grandyoununs get new computers Pa just might need one also.  Yep, he did -- a IMac,

New Computers

One of the fun things in the Fall is getting ready for Winter.  Part of getting ready for Winter is the arrangement for firewood for use in the fireplace.  Pa  put  in some five to six cords for the winter.  The wood was off loaded in the back yard and later found the way to stacks on the back porch.  Such an event provides a good reason to take pictures for a record as to how the job got done.  The reason for the firewood was to have fires in the fireplace.  Pa also took several pictures of fire in the fireplace - enjoy.

Now Pa did not hang around the Home Station all of the time.  He did take several short trips, just to pass the time of what ever.  One of the better trips was to Downtown Grayling to take photos of the 'city flowers'.  The other trips were to Hanson Hills, Mackinaw City - a photo of the famous bridge is available.   The remaining trip was to Petoskey.

Trips

This page started out praising the Fall Color.  Yes, by golly Pa did take many many pictures of the Fall Color.  He very seldom left the house without taking the camera along.  He even took the camera when walking to the mail box.  Thus, you will notice many close up of leaves, on the tree and on the ground.  One of favorite is photos of Early Evening not to mention the Haunted Forest.   There are many many pictures of the great Fall Color.

The Forest

While Thanksgiving and The Forest just might be the 'best' of Fall 2008 there are many photos that did not fit there nor within any of the above.  Pa most always places these 'great - not to be forgotten' photos in the area he labels Around About.  This Fall there are such interesting subjects as:  Antennas, Deer Camp,  Feeders, Home Station, Larry's Pictures, Learn the Lens, Race, not to mention Wilcock Bridge Road.  Enjoy and we will see ya once Winter 2009 is done.
