The Making Of The Well

Just ask anyone, 'If ya are going to do any drilling ya need a derrick"  Yep, we built one, first ya need a saw horse kit (in red).  Then you need legs at least 10 foot long (2x4's).  Fix it up with a a few braces, a pulley and rope, and you are ready to 'drive'.

A trip to a rental shop in Houlton Lake made this driver available.  All ya have to do is raise it with the rope and pulley.  Then have someone, namely Larry, guide it down and wack the drive pipe.  As Pa remembers it took a couple of days.  Pa did the pulling up.

The well ended up being a three foot drive point and 20 feet of pipe.  The last five feet went down slow and hard.  All one had to do then was attach a picture pump, prime and enjoy the nice clear cool water.  Getting the water to the rigs was another problem, ask Pa and he will tell you many stories.
